Romeo's Story

Approximately six months ago in the KC area, a mama dog who had given birth recently was discovered chained to a dog house with her six pups near her side.  Through the Pet Uplift Program from No More Homeless Pets KC, volunteers worked with the dog’s owners and provided them with a better dog house, food and other supplies to help make life a little better for this mama dog and pups.chemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The runt of the litter, Romeo, was not big enough when the rest of his litter mates and his mama were taken by the PUP team to be spayed and neutered at No More Homeless Pets KC’s clinic.  Homes were found for Romeo's other littermates, and when the PUP team returned to check on Romeo to see if he was ready to be neutered, they found a very sad, little dog, who could not open his eyes.

Romeo was diagnosed with Entropian, an inward rolling of the eyelid edges. In Romeo’s case, he had been suffering from this condition so long that his eyes had crusted completely shut from the irritation and discharge.

Think about how awful it feels to just have a loose eyelash stuck on your eyeball….we can only imagine what it would be like to have all of your eyelashes turned inward so they rubbed against your eyes every time you blinked!

No More Homeless Pets KC has a “Fuzzy Friends Fund,” that was established to help out with veterinary care in situations just like Romeo’s.  At that time the fund did not have enough to cover the cost of the surgery, but in a short time, Romeo was able to go ahead and make a date with the vet to get his eyes taken care of.

Romeo underwent surgery to correct the severe entropian that he has, and two little growths on each eye.
Following his surgery, Romeo was placed in a foster home until an adoptive home can be found. He has been through so much in his young life. He is only 6 months old and he has been in discomfort for most of that time. No More Homeless Pets KC would love for Romeo to have a wonderful foster home/adoptive home to recover from his surgery in. Romeo is a gentle, sweet boy. He is quiet in his kennel and seems to get along with everyone just fine.
