General Information and Guidelines for Participation in T.A.A.P.
For an animal to participate in the program it must be healthy and free from parasites, disease, infections, and illnesses. If you choose to use your own animal and it gets accepted into the program you must have a health screening form completed by your animal's regular veterinarian (this and all other veterinarian care are at the animals parents own expense). To participate in the TAAP program the animal must meet, but is not limited to the following requirements:

Health:
¨ Pass a general physical exam.
¨ Received rabies immunization, as prescribed by state law and age appropriate.
¨ In compliance with other immunization requirements, as prescribed by your veterinarian.
¨ Free from internal and external parasites.
¨ Be spayed/neutered when age appropriate. No animals in the TAAP Program can be used as/for breeders/breeding.
¨ DeClawing of cats is not allowed
General:
¨ The animal parent must provide proof of the animal's current rabies certificate, certificate of spay/neuter and certificate of good health from the animals veterinarian.
¨ All Animals must have Identification tags at all times.
¨ All animals must be wearing a collar/harness and be on lead at all times when outside the home.
Acceptable:
¨ Well-fitted buckle, quick-release connection, or snap closure collars or harnesses made of leather or fabric.
¨ Martingales (i.e., limited slip) and halters (e.g., Gentle Leader, Promise, Snoot Loop, Halti).
¨ Metal buckles, and slip rings are acceptable.
¨ All leather or fabric leashes, no more than 6 feet in length.
¨ Animals such as cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs are encouraged to be carried in a basket and/or size appropriate kennel.
Unacceptable:
¨ Metal collars and harnesses, including martingales with metal links.
¨ Slip collars of any type.
¨ Special training collars such as "pinch," "spike," electric, or spray collars.
¨ Retractable leashes (e.g., Flexi-leash).
Dogs who have been trained to aggressively protect and/or encouraged to actively bite, will not be accepted into the TAAP program.
